Rock Garden

Royal Botanical Gardens include six property areas. The Rock Garden has been renovated recently and now open for public. Initially, it was an old quarry. Hamilton city converted it to the garden in 1932 as an entrancing beauty to the city on the way from Toronto. Now we have Highway 403, and the Rock Garden is hidden from it.

There is a pretty steep slope to the bottom of the quarry. The path is surrounded by trees and bushes. The lowest point is the pond with the island in the center.

The garden is a popular wedding destination. We saw four brides with grooms in the same half an hour. The waterfall and bridges are the best place for pictures for sure.

I didn’t know that Hamilton is a twin city with Fukuyama, Japan. From the gift placement there is a path to the one more pavilion of the garden. In the middle of this path there is a lookout to whole garden. The gallery of the pavilion looks on the monument to the founder of the gardens. He had to drive to Toronto and back to Hamilton, and had an idea of beautiful scenic views from his car. Thanks to Thomas McQuesten, we do have these gardens now.

From pavilion we went down to the pond. But first had a look at rock beds with flower, growing straight from the holes of the rocks!
The pond. It has fountains and lilies.

There were people with the dogs there also. Looks like the garden in pets friendly even though it is small. We spent an hour or so to go through and enjoy the garden.
